Karen's Story

Karen's story will resonate with anyone who has ever drank to numb feelings of inadequacy or depression. Karen was a hard-working high-achiever with everything under control until she embarked on a challenge she didn't feel she could master to her usual standards: motherhood. What she believed should be the happiest time of her life instead spiralled in a very different direction. Karen looks back on these low times and reflects on how far she has since come as a woman in recovery.

  1. This is another great episode! I relate to so much of Karen's story!! It has now been almost 8 months since I last had any alcohol, and when Karen said (I paraphrase), "it is easier to avoid drinking altogether than to moderate," I shouted, "hell, yeah!!" Thank you, Karen, for sharing your story with us.

  2. Thank you Karen for telling your story to us. It resonated with me so well and it helps me to realize "I want that too!". When alcohol takes away more than it gives, why keep it in our lives? It is a lie to think we are losing something when making the decision not too drink. Thanks for helping to remind me that there is no shame in not drinking - it is a better choice and a better way to live for many of us. Jean, Heartfelt thanks for keeping this pod cast going. You are an angel.
