I Relapsed: Now What?

On this episode, we talk about defining relapse, getting honest with ourselves and our loved ones, finding help and support, and starting over. We touch on the early warning signs of relapse and how to quell that little voice that wants to rationalize its way into a drink. Our guests share their recovery journeys through relapse, which show us that recovery is always waiting for us, without judgment or fear. We can always return to our true, sober selves, so we must never give up hope.

  1. In a way, one must think of relapse as an inevitable obstacle one must overcome to achieve a deeper level of independence. Relapse is triggered by many different reasons - ingestion of small amounts of alcohol, exposure to events or places the person may associate with alcohol, or highly stressful events. If one can find a way to avoid these triggers, the likelihood of a relapse is reduced.

  3. This was a great show. Nice to hear from Ellie and this story... I haven't managed to even get into recovery yet, but this is a good precursor to know how things are post-recovery. Also so helpful to hear about why we relapse and why she relapsed. I couldn't relate more to her if I tried.
